Immersed in my wilderness.
I can hear the nocturnal forest start to come alive after the first faint buzz of a mosquito. Subtle sounds of scratching leak from the trees and seem to spill over the sound of fading bird calls. My curiosity nags at me as I patiently wait for these subtle scratching sounds to reveal their nature to me. But isn’t that the nature of nature…to hide it’s secrets for those who patiently earn access. Then my body shivers from a chill that reminds of Michigan nights in the spring-time.
Just before I head out at 8:30 p.m., the raccoon re-emerges. It only stays at the top of the tree moving around anxiously seeming to be looking at me wondering if it should go back down to the ground or not. After observing that it wanted to get on with it’s exciting night-life, I quietly packed up and headed out.

Immersing in the Woods
Raccoon spotted at 7:50 p.m. climbing up and into a dead tree about 30ft tall. I noticed that it was climbing very slowly even though I was far away; at least 50 yards. Perhaps it being cautious because there is still plenty of daylight and doesn’t want to stick out. Or maybe it is pregnant? After all, it was a fat looking raccoon. Now I sit and wait for it to re-emerge…
I sit here next to this Walnut tree and flowering Blood-root plants at 8:18 p.m. I can hear the nocturnal forest start to come alive after the first faint buzz of a mosquito.
